(17) Thetis by Gabi & Detlef Koschny

I was using a 6” Refractor with a Watec camera. The times are corrected following the rules proposed on www.dangl.at

My observatory is located at 52 15'48.2" N = 52.26339 deg N 04 29'21.6" E = 4.48933 deg E -3 m (i.e. below mean sea level)
Some background info: This was my first ever observation of an asteroid occultation. I set up my 6” Refractor on a Sphinx mount

which was a workaround solution as normally I use a 16” Cassegrain, but that was on ‘refurbishment’… So the mount was not aligned properly and the star kept drifting out. My wife was observing with me. I was recording on VHS video tape and had an analog monitor set up to watch in real time. My wife was watching with me. I had to re-center the star every 2 min. The predicted occultation time came … and went. After about two minutes I stood up to go to the telescope (we were watching the monitor from my control room) to recenter the star – when my wife yelled out “It’s gone!” I looked at the star and indeed it was not there. A few seconds later it reappeared. So, I almost missed it, had it not been for my wife...
